Books on Photography

'Restless Spirit: The Life and Work of Dorothea Lange' by Elizabeth Partridge
Dorothea Lange is one of my favorite photographers of all time so naturally I loved this book about her.  I read this back in my junior high school days but some adults might find it interesting also.

'Understanding Exposure' by Bryan Peterson
This book is a must have for any aspiring photographer.  Mr. Peterson gives practical and very understandable explanations and examples.  He's very easy to follow.

'Monte Zucker's Portrait Photography Handbook' by Monte Zucker
Written by the master of portrait photography, Monte Zucker.  Mr. Zucker tells you things about taking portraits that no one else has taken the time to put in writing. I couldn't be happier with a portrait handbook and I've read a few. Very easy to understand and well written. This book not only walks you through the portrait process but also gives you some very helpful tips on running your own portrait business along with some of the best portrait examples. Some great insights and wonderful portraits. I recommend to anyone (beginner and experienced) in the portrait profession to get your hands on this book and read it cover to cover. I know I'll be keeping my copy to re-read and refer back to in the future.

'People in Focus' by Bryan Peterson
Of course, after reading 'Understanding Exposure' you long to read more books by Bryan Peterson.  This one really appealed to me as I love photographing people and I found it builds on the exposure book.

'Walker Evans: The Hungry Eye' by Gilles Mora (Author) and John T. Hill (Author)
One of the greats of photography, this book shows a wide variety of his works.

'Cindy Sherman: The Complete Untitled Film Stills ' by Peter Galassi (Author) and Cindy Sherman (Photographer)
And just for fun, who couldn't love this book of Cindy Sherman's famous self-portraits.

'War Photographer' Not a book but a very interesting documentary on photojournalist James Nachtwey.  Probably the most important war photographer of our time.

'Edge of the Earth, Corner of the Sky' by Art Wolfe (Author) and Art Davidson (Author)
I couldn’t be more pleased with this book.  I love to sit and study his work.  This book is just filled with amazing landscapes.  Art Wolfe has captured some sites that I think the normal person would have overlooked and turned them into beautiful works of art.

'The Moment it Clicks' by Joe McNally
Great photography work along with some great tips on working as a professional photographer.

And can't forget my own book, 'For the Moment' which is a collection of floral photographs taken over the past 8 to 10 years.
